I believe that my best work is the Digital Learning Lesson Summary. I am currently excelling in designing learning activities and environments that use technology and accommodating activities to the needs of all learners to support their learning goals. I also am excelling in aligning most/all of the ISTE standards in my activities for students.
Top 3 Examples of My Best Work
For the Digital Learning Lesson, I chose to use Google Slides as my interactive tool for students. I chose this over a hyperdoc because younger students cannot read and go through a hyperdoc on their own. My lesson is made for whole-group instruction and has small breakouts throughout. I included several pictures, videos, and games to keep the students engaged with the technology purposefully. I also provided opportunities for students to practice digital citizenship principles by sharing and extending their learning with online communities.
For part of the Digital Learning Lesson, I made a Quizlet for students to practice what they learned. They can take a test, play a matching game, or study the flash cards over the new information. This is a great tool for teachers and students to utilize. It gives students a choice of how they would like to learn the information and it also allows students the option to print or share their results with the teacher.
To assess the students, I created a rubric that aligns with the learning objectives in the lesson. This was one of the more difficult tasks I did in this course. I had never made a rubric before, so I was not familiar with the information that goes into it and what tools to use to create it. Professor Proctor included an entire article with samples, presentations, links etc. to help guide me through the process.
Summary
Overall, I chose this as my best work because it was a multistep process and it is something I know I will use in my future classroom. I put a lot of time and work into this Digital Learning Lesson. I feel proud about my work because I received a perfect score and I know that I could have never made this lesson before taking this course. It is interactive, gives students choices, and supports all types of learners! This work connects to several standards:
-
Innovative Designer (4b) Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.
-
Creative Communicator (6a) Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication. (6b) Students create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations. (6d) Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.
-
Digital Citizen (2c) Students demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property.
I am exceeding these standards by providing multiple ways and opportunities for the students to accomplish these standards and goals. If I would have tried to complete this assignment at the beginning of the semester, I would have found it to be almost impossible. However, now it is possible and easier because I know how to utilize the tools and have more knowledge about technology. The skills I used to create the lesson plan include:
-
Creating positive experiences for students to contribute and participate responsibly in the digital world.
-
Designing learning activities and environments that use technology to accommodate the needs of all learners to support the achievement of learning goals.
-
Analyzing students progress using various technology tools.
-
Modeling the identification, evaluation, and adoption of digital resources, tools, and practices that leverage technology and support learning.
-
Collaborating with peers, students, families, and the local community to improve practice, share resources, and solve problems.
In the future, I plan to build on these skills by getting more familiar with them. The more I use them, the more I will continue to develop and succeed. I also believe that the more research I do online, the more I will discover new ways to use technology throughout my lesson plans in the future.
